Corporate Solicitor
A brand-new instruction with us here at VWV for a Corporate Solicitor, ideally at the newly qualified or early stages of your post-qualified career, seeking a career move to our wonderful Watford office.
About us
As a national firm of just over 600 employees and four offices in Watford, London, Bristol and Birmingham, we offer a complement of full services to clients in a wide range of dynamic sectors like health, education, technology and life sciences.
Here at VWV, we love variety…. both in the clients we act for and the colleagues we interact with.
You'll be pleased to hear that there's no "VWV person"! We're a collective group of differing individuals, each with our own unique personality but with a desire to be part of a team - working together to deliver the best advice to our clients. That means you'll be joining a team, department and wider firm with no airs and graces or arrogance. Never was this more true than in our Watford office which is renowned for its close-knit and friendly culture.
The role
Our Watford team carries out a broad range of corporate work affording you the opportunity to gain exposure to work and clients that at many other firms, you just wouldn't have. This includes work within the fields of life sciences, education, health, technology and charities. We are looking to bring in someone who is excited by the breadth of work we can offer with a view to specialising in a particular sector, if they wish, a little further down the track.
Although we undertake the full range of work including mergers and acquisitions, investments and corporate governance, you will not be expected to have experience across all of these areas. What we do expect is an inquiring mind that's always hungry to learn more and a solid grounding in a wide range of what we call 'bread and butter' corporate work. For us, this would include business/company sales and purchases, shareholder agreements, articles of association, corporate restructuring, corporate governance matters, joint venture partnerships and company incorporations. Any experience of banking work would be a bonus but certainly not a necessity. You'll ideally have gained some exposure to supervising others, but again, this is not a requirement- it's your technical ability, proactive nature and clear communication skills that will enable you to thrive in this role.
This is a sociable role where you'll enjoy working closely with colleagues in other teams and offices. We celebrate our culture of teamwork and collaborative working, Building connected, lasting relationships is so important to us here at VWV, it's actually one of our core values! With the variety and quality of work that we can offer, you'll relish the fact that no two days are the same. Our office in Watford is friendly and welcoming and as much as we love the law, we regularly get together socially to discuss all things non-law- related!
The team and reputation
Our Watford team is led by our highly regarded Partner, Richard Phillips. We're a close knit group in Watford with three Partners, Richard, Emma Cameron and Samantha Chaney and a team of lawyers with a range of experience working with them.
Of course we operate within the wider VWV corporate team and geography is not a dividing line. You will regularly find yourself working in cross office transactional teams, bringing together the relevant expertise and experience from across the firm.
Where will I be working?
At VWV we have a truly unique and engaging culture that we hold dear. We work hard but we also love to have fun and we recognise that it's the social interaction between us that really shapes our culture. Whilst we embrace flexible working, this is a predominantly office-based role, working from our Watford office. In this way, you'll benefit first-hand from our warm and friendly culture as well as facilitate cross referral opportunities from your colleagues in other teams. We are of course happy to discuss any specific requirements of hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.
