Employment Associate

Fantastic opening in our Bristol office for an employment lawyer looking for an associate level role with a Top 100 UK law firm.

Top quality work AND a supportive, well geared team. Here at VWV, you don't need to make a compromise to enjoy your working day.

With four offices in Bristol, Birmingham, London and Watford, you'll be struck, not just by the quality of our work, but by the quality of our people, who facilitate collaborative working within a warm and friendly environment.

The role and team

Our nationwide employment team is headed up by Gareth Edwards, who himself is Bristol based.  The Bristol part of the team is around 15 individuals - large enough to find there's always support when needed, and small enough to ensure your efforts are seen and appreciated.

The most striking feature of our role is the variety and quality of work. You'll enjoy all the generalist areas of employment law you'd expect from a firm of our size from advising on employee relations issues, discrimination, employment contracts and TUPE through to defending complex employment tribunals. However, in addition you'll be able to work across a variety of interesting and buoyant sectors such as technology, life sciences, charities, the public sector and education. Whilst some experience in these areas would be an advantage, it is not required. What is required is a passion for employment law, a mind that's open to learning new areas and good commercial nous that ensures you'll work efficiently and effectively.

Whilst expertise in both contentious and non- contentious work would be preferred, we are open to candidates with expertise in either discipline.

As employment law involves supporting corporate deals and wider projects within the firm,  you'll naturally find the role to be sociable and interactive. You'll have a love of team endeavour and enjoy working collaboratively with your colleagues across the offices, helping to provide our clients with the seamless "one stop shop" service for which, here at VWV, we are renowned.

As for our reputation, the legal directories speak for themselves. With our Bristol based team being ranked in Chambers and Partners 2024, it's no surprise that our individuals should also gain recognition- three of our Bristol based Partners within the wider team are Chambers rated- Gareth Edwards, Simon Bevan and Alice Reeve, with the latter being ranked nationally for her education based employment work.

Where will I be working?

Here at VWV, we're currently working to a hybrid model of office and home working.

Whilst it's your experience and enthusiasm that for us are key, we'd ideally like you to work from our Bristol office for up to 3 days of the week. In this way, you'll benefit first-hand from our warm and friendly culture that no advert can do justice! We are of course happy to discuss any specific requirements of hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.

Why choose us?

There are so many reasons to stop and explore us further.  We're known for our friendly and welcoming culture where teamwork and collaboration is key. There's no pigeon-holing or glass ceilings here, just a professional yet relaxed culture where you can finally be yourself.  We invite you to watch this short video on the right hand side to see what our own people have to say about us.
