Employment Senior Associate / Legal Director
A fantastic opportunity for an experienced employment lawyer, most likely working either at senior associate or legal director level, looking for a new role with a growing Birmingham based team. You're an engaging and bright lawyer, now seeking a career-defining role within a firm where hybrid working and high quality work are simply par for the course.
We're a Top 100 full-service UK law firm with around 630 employees. With four offices in Birmingham, Bristol, London and Watford, you'll be struck by our close-knit and friendly culture. We're just not like other firms! We believe in integrity and authenticity - in each one of us being ourselves both in our interactions with each other as well as with our clients.
The role and team
This role offers the best of both worlds- working with a small group of Birmingham based experts yet being part of a larger national practice of 33 fee earners. As part of a dedicated team of 7 employment law fee earners in Birmingham, you'll enjoy being able to make a big impact on the success story of the team.
Our reputation is striking for a team of this size- we are ranked in both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners (2026); a significant undertaking for a team of this size.
The most striking features of our role are the variety and quality of work in which you'll get involved. You'll enjoy all the generalist areas of employment law you'd expect from a firm of our size from advisory work, employment contracts and TUPE through to defending complex employment tribunals. In addition, you'll be able to work across a variety of interesting and buoyant sectors including education and charities. For many of these sectors such as education, our work is national in source and cutting edge in its impact. With a particularly strong reputation in this area, here at VWV, you'll enjoy gaining expertise in a specialism that is continually busy.
At your level, we expect you to have good experience in supervising other lawyers, finding and engaging in networking opportunities and to possess strong commercial acumen. You'll have a love of team endeavour and enjoy working collaboratively with your colleagues across the offices, helping to provide our clients with the seamless "one stop shop" service for which, here at VWV, we are renowned.
Where will I be working?
We work to a hybrid model, and for this role we would like you to work from our Birmingham office flexibly for at least 2 days of the week. In this way, you'll benefit first-hand from our warm and friendly culture as well as facilitate cross referral opportunities from your colleagues in other teams and be able to provide support to less experienced members of the team. We are of course happy to discuss any specific requirements for hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.
