Employment Solicitor

A fantastic opportunity for an employment lawyer looking for a varied diet of employment work without any compromise on quality.  Here at VWV you can finally have your cake and eat it.

Our successful employment team is now looking to bolster its Birmingham based team with a positive and personable lawyer, most likely at the relatively early stages of their post qualified career.  However, we're of course happy to consider candidates who fall outside of this guide.

About us

We're a Top 100 full-service UK law firm with just over 500 employees. With four offices in Birmingham, Bristol, London and Watford, you'll be struck by our close-knit and friendly culture. We're just not like other firms!  We believe in integrity and authenticity- in each one of us being ourselves both in our interactions with each other as well as with our clients.  What does that mean for you?  Well, it means you'll be part of a team, a department and a wider firm that doesn't do airs and graces or arrogance… you'll be part of the VWV family.

The role and team

This role offers the best of both worlds- working with a small group of Birmingham based experts yet being part of a larger national practice.

The Birmingham team consists of two Partners, Kathy Halliday and Jane Byford who are both acclaimed in Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners (2023), as well as a Senior Associate and an Associate.

We're looking to bring on board a bright lawyer with a strong background in employer-based work to undertake a range of work comprising non-contentious and contentious work.

The most striking feature of our role is the variety and quality of work in which you'll get involved. You'll enjoy all the generalist areas of employment law you'd expect from a firm of our size from advising on discrimination, employment contracts and TUPE through to defending complex employment tribunals.  However, in addition you'll be able to work across a variety of interesting and buoyant sectors including higher education and charities.  In our key sectors, such as education, our work is national in source and cutting edge in its impact.  With a particularly strong reputation in this area here at VWV, you'll enjoy gaining expertise in sectors that are continually busy and whilst some experience in our key sectors would be an advantage, it's not required. What is required is a passion for employment law, a mind that's open to learning and a good commercial approach that ensures you'll work efficiently and effectively.

Given that this role is part of a national team and involves supporting wider projects within the firm,  you'll naturally find the role to be sociable and interactive.  You'll enjoy working collaboratively with your colleagues across the offices, helping to provide our clients with the seamless "one stop shop" service for which, here at VWV, we are renowned.

Where will I be working?

At VWV we have a truly unique and engaging culture.  We work hard but we also love to have fun and we recognise that it's the social interaction between us that really embeds our culture.  Whilst recent times have proved we can work effectively as a business from home, we're currently working to a hybrid model of both office and home working.

Whilst it's your enthusiasm that for us is key, we'd like you to work from our Birmingham office for at least part of the week.  In this way, you'll benefit first-hand from our warm and friendly culture that no advert can do justice and learn from the other experienced lawyers in the team!  We're of course happy to discuss any specific requirements for hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.

Why choose us?

There are so many reasons to stop and explore VWV further.  We're known for our friendly and welcoming culture where teamwork and collaboration are key.  There's no pigeon-holing or glass ceilings here, just a professional yet relaxed culture where you can be yourself.

We're striving to be an inclusive employer, to create a workplace and environment that promotes and values diversity, where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential. Contact our recruiter to discuss any adjustments needed so we can make this the best possible candidate experience for you.

Not sure whether to apply?

Whilst we're renowned for our transparent and welcoming culture, we know that making the next career move can be daunting.  We've all been there!

It's more than likely you'll have one or two questions on the role or firm before you feel happy to apply. If so, please contact me, Jannica Seccombe, Lawyer Resourcing Lead, in complete confidence on 07500 109783 or jseccombe@vwv.co.uk and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.  If you're in two minds about whether to contact me to find out more, you've got nothing to lose and potentially a whole lot to gain…

We're directly sourcing for this role and are not accepting any applications from agencies at this time.  We politely request therefore that you don't send candidates through.  Any named or anonymised profile or CV sent to us will be deemed an unsolicited approach and deleted.
