Financial Accountant (12 month contract)
At VWV, our Finance team plays an important role in keeping the firm running smoothly. We work closely with colleagues across the business, providing the financial information and support they need to make informed decisions.
We're looking for a qualified Financial Accountant to join us in Bristol on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. It's a varied role where you'll get involved in everything from financial reporting and forecasting to improving processes and supporting colleagues across the team.
If you enjoy getting into the detail, have a strong technical accounting background and like working collaboratively to get things done, this could be a great opportunity to join us.
Is This Your Next Career Move?
You'll play an important part in ensuring our financial information is accurate, reliable and ready when it's needed. Working across VWV and its subsidiaries, you'll help keep our financial reporting and controls on track, while supporting the wider business with the information it needs.
You'll take the lead on the month-end close process, preparing monthly legal entity accounts and making sure journals, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting records are accurate and up to date. You'll also help maintain our cash flow forecasts, monitor costs against budgets and investigate any unexpected variances with budget holders.
There's plenty of variety in the role. You'll be involved in payroll accounting and reconciliations, pension submissions, VAT and banking covenant reporting, as well as coordinating our annual statutory audit and working closely with external auditors and tax advisers.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to improvements across the Finance team, including supporting the implementation of new finance systems, testing processes and making sure our procedures remain up to date. Alongside this, you'll provide day-to-day technical guidance to our Assistant and Trainee Financial Accountants, helping them build their confidence and develop their skills.
You'll work closely with the Head of Financial Reporting and Partnership Accounting, supporting partnership accounting activities and other financial reporting requirements as needed.
Who Are We Hoping Will Apply?
You'll be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA) with a solid grounding in financial accounting and experience of month-end and year-end processes, balance sheet controls and financial reporting.
You're organised, comfortable juggling competing priorities and able to keep things moving when deadlines are tight. You'll have excellent attention to detail, strong Excel skills and the confidence to work independently while knowing when to collaborate or ask for input.
Just as importantly, you'll enjoy working with people across the business, be comfortable explaining financial information and have a practical approach to solving problems. You'll be happy to share your knowledge with colleagues and help identify ways we can make our processes more effective.
Experience in the legal sector or wider professional services would be useful, but it's not essential. We're more interested in your technical ability, your approach to your work and the contribution you can make to the team.
