HR Consultant

Narrow Quay HR is an HR Consultancy with a reputation for providing excellent quality HR support across a variety of sectors. We are a trading name and team of VWV, a full service law firm. Our key areas of work include providing day to day HR support to a range of clients, undertaking workplace investigations, working with clients on projects such as consultation exercises, undertaking training for clients and working alongside our clients to help them to achieve their people management goals. This is an opportunity to join Narrow Quay HR and to become a key member of our friendly and collaborative team.

Our business continues to grow and our clients need our support more than ever so we're looking for an additional HR Consultant ideally for at 4 days a week, to start as soon as possible.

Is This Your Next Career Move?

Whether it's managing day-to-day HR queries, carrying out investigations or providing support for strategic projects, Narrow Quay HR works collaboratively with clients to understand their needs and help them reach the right HR solutions. A number of the team members have a background in employment law, enabling us to provide clients with both strong legal grounding and practical HR expertise, while other team members are highly experienced HR practitioners.

This is a senior employed position within our established team and is best suited to someone with significant HR or employment law experience who is confident operating independently at a high level and is looking to become a long-term member of a collaborative and supportive team.

Central to your role will be leading workplace investigations for a range of clients across different sectors, including education, charities, blue light services and SMEs. The investigations, into grievances, disciplinary issues and complaints, are often complex and sensitive, requiring sound judgement, sharp analytical thinking, credibility and strong stakeholder management skills.

We are specifically looking for someone with substantial experience of independently leading complex workplace investigations from start to finish, including managing challenging stakeholder relationships, conducting interviews, analysing evidence and producing high-quality investigation reports and recommendations.

You'll also have the opportunity to build trusted relationships with clients who sign up to the Narrow Quay HR retainer service and support them across a broad range of HR matters and you'll play a key role supporting the wider work of the team, including HR projects, client training, and panel support for disciplinaries, grievances and appeals.

We are looking for someone with a strong track record of leading complex workplace investigations independently and advising senior stakeholders on sensitive employee relations matters. You might be a highly experienced HR practitioner or an experienced Employment Lawyer, or former Employment Lawyer, looking to move into a broader HR consultancy role.

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys working autonomously, building strong client relationships and delivering pragmatic, commercially focused advice as part of a collaborative and supportive team.

Why Choose Us?

Narrow Quay HR is part of VWV, a leading firm of solicitors with its Head Office in Bristol. In practice, this means you'll enjoy the benefits of being part of a close-knit specialist team, while also benefiting from the infrastructure, resources and support that come with being part of a larger organisation.

With around 600 employees, VWV is known for its friendly and welcoming culture, where teamwork and collaboration are highly valued.

We offer a competitive salary, holiday allowance that increases after 12 months, and pension contributions. In addition, we offer private healthcare, life assurance, an informal dress code, and a range of discounts with local businesses. You'll also benefit from a wide range of internal training opportunities to support your continued professional development.

You'll be working in an inclusive environment that promotes and values diversity, and where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.

Where Will I Be Working?

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of working from the VWV Watford office at least once a week and travelling to Bristol at least once a month for a team meeting. The role will also involve travel to client sites.

So Who Are We Hoping Will Apply?

You may be a senior HR professional with extensive experience of leading complex workplace investigations and building trusted client relationships. Alternatively, you may be an experienced Employment Lawyer, or former Employment Lawyer, looking for a new challenge.

Either way, this role is intended for someone who brings a high level of expertise, credibility and independence, and who has demonstrable experience of personally leading sensitive and complex investigations rather than supporting others in that process.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have experience in the education sector, health sector or blue light sector.

Please note we are ideally looking for someone who can start as soon as possible.
