Paralegal
Commercial Litigation Paralegal, London
Our Commercial Litigation team are on hand to help clients resolve disputes in the most efficient and cost-effective way. Their expertise in alternative dispute resolution methods including negotiation, adjudication, expert determination, mediation and arbitration often avoids the costly process of litigation through the courts. In London, the team works predominantly on healthcare disputes, including GP partnership disputes, and all aspects of insolvency and restructuring work.
Partners Rachel Crean (healthcare litigation specialist) and Ambuja Bose (insolvency specialist) now have an exciting new opportunity for a paralegal to join their team in London to ensure they provide a responsive client service.
Is This Your Next Career Move?
A paralegal role at VWV provides the perfect building blocks for future trainee solicitors looking to gain experience ahead of starting a training contract, or even to assist with applications for training contracts themselves, and that's due to the variety of legal disciplines you'll be exposed to. We're proud of our record in transitioning a good proportion of our existing paralegals into trainee solicitors.
In this varied role you'll be providing legal and admin support to lawyers of varying experience levels, by responding to new enquiries, undertaking legal research, maintaining Lexcel compliant files, assisting with client correspondence and reports and drafting documents. You'll develop those all-important client facing skills as you will have opportunities to liaise with clients as you go above and beyond to meet their deadlines. You'll become familiar with the firm's case management system and compliance procedures and assist the team with letters of engagement, file opening, anti-money laundering, archiving, billing and client accounts. And that's not all, you'll be actively encouraged to help the team to develop cross-selling and marketing opportunities and who knows you may even introduce some business yourself.
Where Will I Be Working?
At VWV we have a truly unique and engaging culture that we hold dear. We work hard, but we also love to have fun, and we recognise that it's the social interaction between us that really embeds our culture. We have a "grown-up" working culture and try to be flexible and agile in the way we work.
Members of the Commercial Litigation team in London are in the office most days of the week to really embrace our collaborative culture, and due to the needs of our clients, and the need for us to be in court, deal with physical documents and attend to matters in person. As such we would expect the successful candidate to be in the office initially for 5 days a week, with the potential to drop down to 4 days a week, with a day working from home in the future. However, we are happy to discuss any specific requirements of arrangements with candidates on an individual basis.
Why Choose Us?
There are so many reasons to stop and explore VWV further. We're known for our friendly and welcoming culture where teamwork and collaboration are key. There's no pigeon-holing or glass ceilings here, just a professional yet relaxed culture where you can finally be yourself. We invite you to watch this short video on the right-hand side to see what our own people have to say about us.
We're striving to be an inclusive employer, to create a workplace and environment that promotes and values diversity, where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential. Contact our recruiter to discuss any adjustments needed so we can make this the best possible candidate experience for you.
So Who Are We Hoping Will Apply?
You'll have some form of legal academics, whether that be a law degree, law conversion and preferably LPC or SQE. And you may have some previous paralegal experience, which will naturally help you transition into the role more smoothly but is by no means essential as we're much more interested in those all-important soft skills.
We'd love to see applications from candidates with a genuine interest in insolvency, healthcare litigation or commercial litigation. If you've got that plus some relevant experience, then you've absolutely got our attention. It's a busy role, so you'll be highly organised, an excellent all-round communicator with proficient IT skills using Microsoft Office, good attention to detail and someone who's motivated by the team's successes ahead of their own. Whilst there's no doubt that time spent in a commercial law firm of this size will naturally enhance your commercial acumen, we love to see applications from graduates whose commercial awareness is instinctive, so if that's you, then we really want to hear from you.
