Procurement Lawyer

Partners, Stephanie Rickard, Ben Holt and Rachel Crean make up our specialist partner led non-contentious and contentious procurement team, providing much needed advice and support to their growing client base which is made up of education, local authority, charity and healthcare clients.  Leading on this key piece of recruitment, Stephanie Rickard, is on the look-out for a procurement and subsidy control lawyer to help service this expanding client base following an increase in instructions.

Our procurement team sits within our wider commercial offering and regularly advises on high profile and strategically important multi-discipline projects.  The team has a strong reputation and its lawyers are recognised as specialists in their field in the legal directories.

Could this be your next career move?

Day to day you'll be working closely alongside Stephanie, who's based from our Bristol location.  Ideally you'll be based near that location too, however we're happy to consider applicants who are situated more closely to our other office locations.

Your main focus will be advising on the specialist areas of procurement and subsidy control.  Depending upon your level of qualification, you may also be encouraged to work with other members of the commercial team on a wide variety of commercial matters in order to develop your skillset and commercial acumen.

And they'll be plenty of opportunities to develop your personal profile within the firm and to get involved in business development opportunities.

Here are some examples of our recent work:

Advising a university of the procurement and subsidy control aspects of its new campus development.

Acting for a number of healthcare providers in successfully challenging NHS procurement processes.

Advising a national research and manufacturing institution on a collaboration with industry and other partners to accelerate digital innovation in the engineering sector following the COVID-19 pandemic.

This in an exciting and growth area of law which is undergoing a period of significant reform.

Why choose us?

With around 450 employees, we're a sizeable firm that still continues to grow, known for its friendly and welcoming culture where teamwork and collaboration is key.  Watch this short video to see what our people have to say about us.

We offer a competitive salary, holiday allowance that increases after 12 months with the firm, contribute to your pension pot, have an informal dress code which allows you to dress appropriately for your day no matter what day it is, give you private healthcare and life assurance, as well as offering a range of discounts with local businesses and with so many excellent internal training programmes on offer to everyone it's so easy to develop and improve your skills.

We're passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity, we're striving to create an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.

Where will I be working?

For safety at this time our people are working remotely, though everyone is looking forward to getting back to the office, where our lovely culture is clear to see.  We work hard but we also have fun, and we're missing that social interaction with each other that really embeds our culture.  That said, we have video meeting capability so we can still stay in contact as much as possible.

This unusual time has proved we can work effectively as a business from home.  That said we're currently planning a staged return to our offices, which is likely to be on a flexible part-time basis.  This flexible and agile approach means we can discuss hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.

About you

Ideally you'll have some experience of advising on procurement law or subsidy control law but this is by no means a pre-requisite as we'll provide the necessary support and training.  All we ask is that you demonstrate an understanding of the area and bring strong technical skills.

If you were to ask us how many years experience is the ideal, we'd probably say somewhere between one and three.   At VWV we don't operate by set in stone post qualification years attached to our titles, as for us it's more about hitting the standards we set for our qualified lawyers whatever their experience level.  What's more important to us is that you have an enthusiasm for the subject matter area and a keenness to specialise in this area of law.

If you have sector and/or contentious experience, particularly from the public or education sectors,  teamed with a desire to get involved in business development, we'd love to hear from you.
