Property Litigation Associate

Are you a Property Litigator looking to join a thriving and welcoming team in London?  Have you always wanted to be part of a firm that's not just successful, but warm and collaborative?  If so then this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Here at VWV, our property litigation offering lies at the very heart of our firm.  Headed up by Partner, Michelle Bendall (based from our Bristol office) our property litigation practice is increasingly busy and now in a period of growth.  As such, Michelle is looking to recruit an additional lawyer into our London office to support Property Litigation Partner, Katie Hickman.  Katie is also our London Office Partner, a post dedicated to the growth and stability of a strong VWV London presence.

About the role

Our real estate litigation offering punches well above its weight meaning you get to enjoy the best of both worlds; the chance to make a real impact in a small and supportive team with the professional and social benefits that come with working within a much larger real estate department that contributes an overall 30% of the firm's turnover.

You'll be dealing with a huge variety of property disputes in relation to shops, offices, warehouses, industrial estates, development land and residential property as well as the "bread and butter" work of a property litigation team e.g. serving notices, advising in relation to breaches of lease, possession claims etc.  In addition to dealing with litigious matters, you'll also get involved in advisory work by supporting our non-contentious property colleagues at the drafting stage, plus you'll have the opportunity and encouragement to get involved in multiple BD activities.

The team has a wide client base including charities, universities, schools, developers, individuals and corporates.  Key London team clients include Rugby School, University of the Arts London, University of Derby and Canterbury Cathedral.

The London Property Litigation team regularly advises in relation to disputes involving "big players" in the market.  Recent cases have involved Eversheds Sutherland, Trowers & Hamlins, Dentons, DAC Beachcroft LLP, DLA Piper LLP, Clyde & Co, Howard Kennedy, Macfarlanes and Simmons & Simmons.

About you

You'll pride yourself on being more than just a lawyer, immersing yourself in your client's challenges as you seek to balance out their commercial objectives alongside their legal requirements.  You'll seek to undertake high quality work and your passion for building new and existing client relationships will support the team's business development goals.

Ideally you'll have at least 3 years post qualified experience and most likely working at Associate or Senior Associate level.  However for us it's your enthusiasm and commitment that is key so if your experience falls outside of this guide but you'd like to find out more about VWV, we'd love to hear from you.

About hybrid

At VWV we have a truly unique and engaging culture that we hold dear.  We work hard but we also have fun as we recognise that it's the social interaction between us that really embeds our culture. We're currently adopting a hybrid model of office and remote working and would love you to benefit first-hand from our warm and collaborative culture, by spending at least some of the week in our London office.  We're happy to discuss any specific requirements of hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.

About us

Whilst we're a sizeable firm of around 500 employees with four offices in Bristol, Birmingham, London and Watford, the first thing you'll notice about us is our close-knit and friendly culture. We're not like other firms.  We believe in "being genuine" both in the way we interact with each other and with our clients.  That means you'll join a team, a department and a wider firm with no airs and graces or arrogance.  There is no "VWV type" person!  We're a collective group of friendly individuals each with our own unique personality, working together to deliver the best advice to our clients, in a language we can all understand.

We offer an exciting array of benefits and are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity.  We're striving to create an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.
