Secretary

Our immigration specialists guide clients through the complexities of the UK's immigration law and we're proud of our record of working with education providers, employers across a range of sectors and private clients providing immigration advice that's tailored to their needs. We're looking for an experienced Secretary to join our immigration team in Birmingham, providing essential support to our lawyers, ensuring the highest standards of service.

Is This Your Next Career Move?

As a Secretary in our immigration team, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department. Your responsibilities will include copy-typing draft documents, producing high-quality legal documentation in line with the firm's house style and possibly accurately transcribing audio dictation. You'll be responsible for maintaining comprehensive filing systems, ensuring all records are managed in an orderly manner and closed in accordance with archiving procedures. Assisting fee earners with financial administration, including billing processes, will also form a key part of your role, ensuring compliance with firm policies.

You'll manage diaries, arrange meetings, book travel and accommodation, and ensure efficient communication between clients and lawyers. Handling incoming calls professionally and taking clear, accurate messages when necessary will be essential. You'll also monitor email inboxes in lawyers' absence, forwarding urgent matters to the appropriate person. Additionally, you'll contribute to the overall success of the team by supporting colleagues within the immigration department and assisting other teams when needed.

Where Will I Be Working?

Whilst we work to a hybrid model, for this role we would like you to work from our Birmingham office for 3 or more days of the week. We are of course happy to discuss any specific requirements of hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.

Who Are We Hoping Will Apply?

To thrive in this role, you'll need at least two years of experience in a legal environment, along with strong word processing and audio typing skills. Being organised and able to manage your workload effectively will be important, as well as having great communication skills—both written and verbal. Attention to detail is key when it comes to document production and legal admin.

We're looking for someone who's proactive, adaptable, and always ready to support the team when needed. You're someone who's motivated by the team's successes ahead of their own and your calm, professional phone manner will be a fantastic first impression for our clients.
